Monasticism was not a new ritual in Christianity. It emerged from Church Life. The roots of Monasticism can be traced to the New Testament as Jesus Christ talked about those who have devoted themselves to heaven. Saint Paul the Apostle praised the Life of celibacy in his letters which the early Christians and monks have struggled to live according to. Additionally, Jesus Christ’s teachings of leaving the materialistic world and getting free of it. The Life of celibacy of Elijah and Saint John the Baptist is considered to be a model to follow for early Monks.
